Alex Hughes is an award-winning wildlife photographer and field ornithologist who has spent more than fifteen years pursuing wildlife across three continents. He holds a degree in wildlife biology from Ohio State University, where he co-founded and served as president of the university's ornithology club and worked as a teaching assistant for its ornithology course, leading student birding trips.
He is the featured photographer of The Birds of Abaco, a large-format book showcasing dozens of his images, with additional photographs published in the field guide Better Birding and Cornell's Macaulay Library. His photography has won multiple international competitions and is featured on calendars and websites.
Alex's field experience is hands-on and international: he has worked as a field technician studying Cuban parrots on Abaco Island, collected data for an urban bird migration study, and has completed field coursework and survey work in the Bahamas, Kenya, and Peru. His undergraduate capstone examined wildlife tourism satisfaction in Tanzania's national parks. An experienced birding guide and speaker, he has guided trips in Yosemite National Park and for Audubon chapters. He is based in Montana, where he has spent more nights than he can count in the backcountry of the Northern Rockies and many National Parks.
